Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler Experts

Industrial Boilers America utilizes Circulating Fluidized Bed Boilers, which are used in power plants. Fluidized beds suspend solid fuels in upward-blowing jets of air during the combustion process. The result is a turbulent mixing of gas and solids. The tumbling action, much like a bubbling fluid, provides more effective chemical reactions and heat transfer. Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler (CFBC) technology was adapted to burn petroleum coke and coal mining waste for power generation in the early 1980s in the US. At that time, US regulations first provided special incentives to the use of renewable fuels and waste fuels. FBC technology spread to other parts of the globe to address specific fuel quality problems. The technology has proved well suited to burning fuels that are difficult to ignite, like petroleum coke and anthracite, low-quality fuels like high ash coals and coal mine wastes, and fuels with highly variable heat content, including biomass and mixtures of fuels.

LEADING INNOVATION

Over the past decade many innovative fuel combustion methods have been developed in power boilers. An important role is played by fluidized bed boilers, which due to the structure of the fluidized bed can be divided into bubbling fluidized bed boilers (BFB) and circulating fluidized bed boilers (CFB). They are known for direct conversion of chemical energy contained in fuel for thermal energy. Indirectly from the generated hot steam electricity can be generated.

REDUCED EMISSIONS

Using fluid combustion technology can bring many benefits. One being the emission of dinitrogen oxide to the atmosphere is significantly reduced due to the low temperature in a fluidized bed chamber (about 860°C). Moreover, thanks to the addition to the fluidized bed sorbent binding sulphur from fuel, one can note a reduction emitted to the atmosphere sulphur oxides. The sorbent is usually ground limestone. In fluidized bed combustion, the fuel particles are intensely mixed with the oxidant, which makes it possible reducing the size of the combustion chamber itself. This technology also allows for the combustion of low-quality fuels with a simplified carburizing system.
